General Membership Questions

  • This information can be found on the membership card given to you at the time of your account opening and at the bottom of your checks. If you are still unable to locate it, please call us at 423-892-3738 during normal business hours and one of our MSR’s should be able to assist once they are able to confirm your identity.

  • You will want to login to your account and select “Remote Control Cards” to select the lost debit card and flag it as lost or stolen. That will cease any future activity on the card. Once that is done, please contact the credit union at 423-892-3738 and ask for a replacement card to be printed. You can pick that up at our office during normal business hours.

  • Most members may use their debit cards up to 25 times at merchants for a total of $2,000 and up to 10 times at ATM’s for a total of $500. If your purchase will exceed this amount and you would like a temporary increase, please call us at 423-892-3738 during normal business hours and we will honor your request.

  • There is a nominal fee of $5 for a cashier’s check and it is printed while you wait. We only need to know the amount of the check and to whom you would like it made payable.

  • For current rates, refer to the “Share & Certificate Rates” page at www.cfecu.org. We pay the same rate on amounts of $1,000 and greater.

  • Mobile deposits are credited immediately on most accounts but may be revoked upon review of the check image. New accounts may be subject to a delay in availability.

  • We do not partner with Zelle, but do partner with Payveris who offers a P2P system similar to Zelle where money is transferred via your debit card.

Auto Loan Questions

  • When looking to purchase a vehicle, you’ll first want to get preapproved by completing the application at www.cfecu.org/loan-application. Once you locate the vehicle you want to purchase, have the dealer email a “buyer’s order” to us at cfecu@cfecu.org. If purchasing from an individual, as the seller to email a picture of the VIN (located on a sticker in the driver’s door jamb) and a picture of the odometer reading so we can calculate a value. A loan officer will contact you if there are additional questions.

  • There is no age limit, but we typically do not loan on vehicles which have over 170,000 miles on the odometer. The interest rate may increase slightly for vehicles over 100,000 miles for some borrowers.

  • We can only provide services for Chattanooga Federal members, but since he/she is your family member, he qualifies for membership. He/she can apply for the loan at https://www.cfecu.org/loan-application and we can open his/her membership account at the time of loan closing.

  • Payments made online from an account at another financial institution can take up to 48 hours to post. You will want to confirm posting by logging into online banking rather than checking on the portal used to make the payment.

  • We offer loans to purchase new and used vehicles and do not have any prohibitions on them preventing the borrower to use the in ride sharing services, such as Uber or Lyft. The loan will be underwritten to current qualifications. To determine eligibility, you will need to apply at https://cfecu.org/loan-application.

Home Loan Questions

  • We partner with 7 Mortgage, a subsidiary of ORNL Federal Credit Union, for all mortgage processing. They use a “tri-merge” report which combines the reports from the three major credit reporting agencies. The Equifax score used is Beacon 5.0, TransUnion is Classic 04, and Experian is Fair Isaac Score 2.

  • Chattanooga Federal does not currently offer HELOC’s, but we do offer a fixed rate home equity loan. This is similar to a HELOC in that the equity in the borrower’s home is used, but it differs in that HELOC’s are revolving in nature (like a credit card) and have an established credit limit established where advances can be made over time. They typically have a variable interest rate. Our home equity loan has a fixed rate for a set amount of time, five, 10 or 15 years. A single advance is done and repaid over time.

  • The most effective and accurate way to get a payoff statement on a mortgage, or any other loan, is to call a Member Service Representative at 423-892-3738 during normal business hours or send them an email at cfecu@cfecu.org requesting they call you to get your account number so they can grant your request. Please do not email your account number or SSN to us.

  • Yes. Chattanooga Federal provides financing for unimproved property. We can finance up to 75% of the sales price or appraised value, whichever is lower. Terms range from 5 years up to 15 years and are dependent upon the loan amount. See the “Loan Rates” page on our website for more details and current rates.
